Art: Sculptures

Way back when I was in high school.  I was assigned a project to weld a found object sculpture - they were doing simple brazing in class . . .  but I had ideas.  Dad-bot builds machines and stuff, so we had a nice wire welder at home in the garage . . . that could actually make my vision.  My first metal dragon was born.

No. 1
Since the first one the family has made many many sculptures.  Many are made through a combination of work from all of us.  Others are made by one person in particular. Dad-bot is crucial to all as he actually know things like the importance of structural integrity, while Mom-bot and I are more of a it looks prettier down a bit farther type.

You can see that we have quite the collection now.  It has almost caused accidents and people slam on the breaks in front of our house.  People often wander the yard taking pictures . . . sometimes even prom pictures or the like.  It can be odd - especially in the morning when you just want to sit in your PJs and have some coffee and people wander into the yard.  I just visit home now, so I deal with it less often.  It is useful if you need to explain where you live.  Everyone in the area could tell you have to get to the house. Hopefully more people realize that making stuff is fun.

Weird Wisconsin

Sorry I've been missing in action.  I got back to Edmonton from Japan for exactly 4 days - caught up on emergency work - did not catch up on what time or day my body was in.  Flew home to Wisconsin to visit the family - got stuck in the giant time vortex that is my parents house.  I'm just bad at doing anything that isn't visiting family or playing with my dog when I finally make it home to my parents house.  I need to begin documenting how odd it can be here.  So, that is the new plan - now that my body agrees with the universe that it is indeed Monday the 23 at 2:53pm - my body was originally going to say 3pm but it was still a bit ahead of itself.

My parents are without a doubt cooler and crazier people than me.  Really.  It is completely true.  So, we went on a road trip to find this place that was rumored to have car parts and a giant fiberglass gorilla.  What else would you do on a Saturday?

You must never sit facing another near the evil bunny of death or he will become enraged . . .

dragon!

Oh no!

Egyptian Gods chillin' in the living room
The place was crazy as advertised - I have never seen so much furniture from the 1980s - I probably did in the 80s but I was very young and dont remember.  My father say "I was expecting better. There wasn't even a gorilla."

If you were wondering about the Blizzard. . .

We had a slight blizzard.  11 inches of snow in a few hours with really strong winds creating white outs (and banging christmas decorations in to the winds hard enough to make use fear for busted glass . . . but not enough to go out in the storm . . . and get on a ladder).  The outside holiday decorations still look good (mostly) despite the storm.

More on the piles of snow

This is all from the one storm . . .

The sculpture and holiday decorations are all welded metal.  All dragons made by me. :)
